Mobile Communications - VIA's CDMA Chip Used in LG's New Phone
May 27, 2004
LG Electronics is prepared to launch a value-line handset featuring VIA's CDMA chip. The new handset is a bar-type design with monochrome display; price of the new handset is set at approximately US$100 and will be sold exclusively by LG Telecom.

With the second stage of number portability starting in July, LG Telecom hopes to attract more subscribers with the addition of the new handset.

LG's new phone is anticipated to draw attention from large vendors such as Qualcomm and Samsung; Qualcomm currently is the leader in the CDMA market, while Samsung's new phone features its own chip technology.
